Penrith Whitwater Stadium

Penrith Whitewater Stadium was the competition venue for the canoe/kayak slalom events during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Located only an hour from Sydney, it is the only man-made whitewater course of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. It is also the place that you will find RCC paddlers most weekends of the year!

Graded as 2-3, the course is the perfect place to learn to whitewater kayak. For pretty reasonable prices (about $240) they offer a few different courses:

Beginner Flatwater Course: A 2 day course designed for people with no kayaking experience. You will learn a lot of skills applicable to whitewater on this course, including an introduction to rolling and moving water.

Beginner Moving Water Course: Another 2 day course for people who have some kayaking experience, but not on whitewater above Grade 1 or 2. Learn to roll, ferry, eddy in and out and many other skills. Great value.

Beginner Whitewater Course: Another 2 day course building on the above. If you have got to this point you probably don’t need to do this course. Paddle with club members and they will show you all they know (which may not be much!)

All of these courses include entry to the course and all equipment. They are really very good value.

As a recreational paddler entry onto the whitewater costs $35 for the day, or pay $700 for the whole year. The course has been closed through the colder winter months of July and August in recent years.
